Troy Grimwood is a passionate woodturner whose creativity and determination shine through every piece he creates. With a lifelong love for working with his hands, Troy found his artistic calling at the lathe, transforming raw timber into elegant, functional works of art.

After sustaining a spinal cord injury in 2008,  Troy discovered woodturning after a close friend of his, Chris Hooton, introduced him to the craft believing Troy would be naturally talented at it as he had a good eye for detail as he was  a qualified builder prior to his injury. Rather than giving up the tools altogether, he redesigned his workspace and techniques to suit his new hobby. He lowered his lathe to an accessible height, customized tool rests for easier reach, and adapted his turning style to maximize control and safety while seated.

These adaptations have not only allowed Troy to keep woodturning but have deepened his appreciation for the craft. Working from a wheelchair has inspired him to approach design with fresh ingenuity and patience, showing that physical limitations do not have to limit creativity.

Today, Troy hopes to inspire others — both disabled and able-bodied—to pursue their passions and adapt their environments to make creativity possible for everyone.
